National Prayer Proposal

Leading up to the crux of this letter it is essential to remember that the Church, the Body of Christ, consists of many members, all of whom affect her for good and evil. “Now you together are Christ’s body. If one part is hurt all parts are hurt with it.” 1 Corinthians .ch.12 : v.26-27.

The recent reports on abuse have had a devastating effect throughout the world. It is not enough for Catholics to be distraught, scandalized by events; wringing our hands but doing nothing. The open wounds need to be cleansed, treated, healed; and we should all be involved in this process. Each one of us has responsibility as part of the Body of Christ.
On the cross at Calvary Christ our Head died once and for all to atone for our sins and this sacrifice continues to be offered every day in the Holy Mass. So this is the proposal that we are putting forward:-

  •  That throughout the country on the 1st Sunday of Advent, December 2nd 2018, ALL masses should be offered in expiation of the sins of the entire Church, and for Her healing.

  • The previous Friday, November 30th , would be a day of prayer and penance observed by EVERY Catholic institution, school, home for the elderly, university student group ,training college etc. …..and of course each individual.

This needs to be a PUBLIC demonstration of reparation nationwide involving as many Parishes, Religious and lay organisations (e.g. Catenians, CWL, Justice and Peace et al. in fact any you can think of); schools, student groups, Homes for the Elderly, Retreat Houses, places of Pilgrimage and as many people as possible. Contact any Catholics that you know – family, friends, work colleagues. Spread the word to everyone you can so there will be a groundswell from the bottom up. We ask for your support in accomplishing this. The help of those using Facebook, Twitter and other modern media will be vital. There needs to be a ripple effect so that no one in the Catholic Church of England, Scotland and Wales is ignorant of the importance of this taking place.

We need the help and cooperation of all Bishops and Priests so that EVERY Mass in their Diocese/Parish will be offered in reparation and healing on that day.

May Our Lady, the Immaculate Conception, pray for us, that this action will lead to a strengthening of our faith, repentance of the abusers, healing for the victims of their abuse and a desire in us all to increase our knowledge and love of our Mother, the Church.

Thank you. God bless you all.
